I have been thinking about writing my thoughts about the news and politics for awhile now, so I’m starting now. I’m not sure how often I’ll write, but I have been wanting to do this since I stopped writing articles for our local paper which is sadly fading away like an old polaroid picture.
I have added three old email list here, so if I included you and you are not at all interested in reading what I have to say, you can either remove yourself or ask me and I will remove you myself.
I have been thinking about how angry conservatives and Republicans are in general and how they threaten both verbally and physically, anyone that thinks different than they do. I know a few conservatives that are decent people and I don’t believe they approve of this behavior either, and I think the Republicans are slowly but surely losing the decent people in the Republican party. Also, the Republicans have put forward no policies that makes our lives better, they offer no policies that makes our lives easier.
I’m thinking of the drug policies that lets the government negotiate prices on medication that people need. When that law was passed, not ONE Republican voted for it. It wasn’t because they disagreed with it, they didn’t want the Democrats in the majority at that time to get the credit for passing that bill. I struggle with understanding not wanting to help people that struggle with paying for their medications. Decent people don’t think that way.
Democratic platforms want to promote social programs, labor unions, consumer protection, workplace safety regulation, equal opportunity, disability rights, racial equity, regulations against environmental pollution, and criminal justice reform. At the last Republican convention, they had no platform to vote on at all, just saying they supported Trump.
It seems Republicans keep trying to hold onto the power to make decisions for other people and resort to tactics that are unethical and at time appear immoral. Keeping people from voting is a big one for me, making it hard for people to get to the polls. Gerrymandering the districts so the Democratic vote is diluted. Carrying guns to stand outside voting polls to intimidate voters as well.
Decent people don’t do this, and are shocked that their party resorts to this. The Republicans are losing this part of their party as well as the majority of the independents that they need, and with the Democratic voting rolls increasing across the county, as well as an ex-president that will be spending more time in court than on the campaign trail, it’s beginning to look like a good year for the Democrats next year.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.
The lies that Republicans spread are so maddening and often leave people voting against their own interest. Democrats are doing better with their messaging, but I think we have a lot of room to grow there.
So much good work is being done and so many good people are running for office, at the state, local, and federal levels. We need to spread the word everywhere.
I hope so too.
